Road repairs shambles

The delight of Gammons Lane finally being fixed with permanent repair today has been over-shadowed by the shambles of the closure of this key road in North Watford.

North Watford Liberal Democrats councillors and campaigners have fought long and hard for the repairs, with one campaigner having reported 35 potholes in one short stretch of road, trying to get some real action. Today Conservative-run Herts Highways closed the road but didn't put out any signage on surrounding roads or divert the traffic.

Sal Brinton, Prospective MP for Watford said: 'It was absolute chaos, especially when the schools closed for the day. There were people doing three-point turns, getting confused and in the case of one driver totally lost. If you close a road to fix something you need to make sure you tell people what you are doing, for how long and how they can get round it. There were not even any prior warning signs. Once again Herts Highways has failed.'
